Zelensky believes that under Trump, the battle will conclude sooner.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday he believed the war with Russia "will end faster" under Donald Trump , praising his phone call with him despite concerns that Washington's support for Kiev was waning.

"The war will certainly end faster with the policies of the team that will run the White House, this is their approach, their promise to their society," Zelensky stated in a news conference, adding that "the war will end, but we do not know exactly when."

Zelensky confirmed that he had a "constructive interaction" with Donald Trump during their phone conversation after his victory in the US presidential election, adding that Trump "heard the foundations on which we rely, and I did not hear anything that contradicts our position."

Trump pledged to stop the crisis "within 24 hours," although he did not specify how, as the US president-elect blasted the Joe Biden administration for spending tens of billions of dollars to support Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.

Trump reiterated his pledge to "work very hard on Russia and Ukraine" since the conflict "has to stop."

Ukraine worries that an agreement that includes giving up land to Russia would be forced upon it, or that US backing will wane as its soldiers fight on the front.
